Bloomsburg University Senior Bryce Evans Has Moving Summer Internship with DHL Supply Chain

Bloomsburg, PA (08/03/2021) — The flow of consumer products from the manufacturer to the seller is a vital but often unseen part of the nation's economy.

Bloomsburg University rising senior Bryce Evans from Schnecksville, Pa., a business administration management major, had a first-hand look at the supply chain process this summer through his internship with DHL Supply Chain.

Working from the company's Carlisle, Pa. location, Evans helped the operation by spending time on the warehouse floor and in the office. He built relationships in the warehouse with the forklift operators helping them become more efficient in their loading, unloading, and case picking tasks. In the office, he assisted by evaluating time requests from forklift operators if issues came up on the floor.

The most surprising part of the job was the volume of products moved daily in and out of the warehouse.

"I had never seen a warehouse operation, so everything was new to me," said Evans. "The massive amounts of product that went in and out of our warehouse was a surprise and how valuable the forklift operators were to the operation. My site moved SC Johnson products which are often products people use every day."

Along with working in the warehouse and office, Evans and interns from around the country also collaborated on a capstone project.

"My favorite part of the internship was getting to collaborate with other interns to create and present our capstone project to business partners in DHL Supply Chain," Evans said. "At the capstone event, I was able to meet interns from all over the United States along with full-time employees up to the company president, vice president, and director levels."

"The Capstone Event was held in Westerville, Oh., where interns from all over the United States came to network, listen to speakers from around the company, and present their different projects," Evans continued. "Our project was on 'Pay for Experienced Hourly Employees.'. It was fun to dive into the numbers, such as retention rate at different points within the company. Many companies face a hiring and retention issue, which is a large aspect of what our project was addressing."

As a student from Bloomsburg University, Evans felt very prepared for the internship and capstone project.

"Bloomsburg prepared me to be successful in any aspect of my internship," Evans said. "The smaller classroom size that Bloomsburg provides allowed me to learn from my professors, which I am not sure I'd receive at a larger school."

Evans, who also plays on the BU men's soccer team, is not totally sure of his plans after graduation.

"I am still considering doing one more year to get an MBA from BU while using my last year of athletic eligibility with the men's soccer team. If I decide not to pursue an MBA, I will be looking for a full-time position. I was fortunate to turn my internship into a full-time offer from DHL after college."
