Homecoming Royalty Named at Bloomsburg University
The annual Homecoming celebration was held at Bloomsburg University on the weekend of Oct. 21-23. At halftime of the Huskies football game with East Stroudsburg, the Homecoming Royalty were crowned. The winners were determined by a vote of the student body.

Bloomsburg University Students Receive Alumni Legacy Scholarships: Students Awarded $1041.00 for Spring 2023 Tuition
The Bloomsburg University Alumni Association has announced the recipients of the 2023 Alumni Legacy Scholarship. The association awards the scholarships each year to current Bloomsburg University students who are a child or grandchild of a Bloomsburg University graduate. The scholarship has been a longstanding tradition of the Alumni Board of Directors, and has provided over $250,000 in scholarships since 1998. BU alumni can register their child or grandchild every fall that their student is registered for spring classes at the university. All students are chosen via random drawing and the entry link can be found at bloomu.edu/alumni.

Bloomsburg University Students Interested in Law School Attend NYC Event
Students from the Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Diehl Center for Law School Preparation recently visited New York Law School in New York City. The 13 students and center director Loren Selznick, J.D., visited the downtown campus, then attended the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) Law School Forum. At the forum, students were able to speak with admissions representatives from nearly 200 law schools.

Bloomsburg University Holds White Coat Ceremony
Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania held its seventh annual Nursing White Coat ceremony on Saturday Sept. 11, at the Haas Center for the Arts on campus. The White Coat Ceremony celebrates sophomore nursing students who are entering the next phase of their education. In all, 125 students pledged their commitment to quality patient care. The most important element of the ceremony is the oath that students take in front of family members, faculty, school leaders, and peers. BU was among the first 100 schools to hold such a ceremony, supported by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation.

Three Bloomsburg University chemistry students pass national accreditation exam
Three Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania students in the B.S. Chemistry - Biochemistry option passed the national American Society for Biochemistry and Biochemistry Molecular Biology (ASBMB) Accreditation Exam. Stepan Budkin, Tara Full, and Jason Stone were among 926 students nationwide that took the rigorous exam in spring 2020 and among the 40.4% (374 students) who passed. Additionally, Stone was awarded certification with distinction for extraordinary success on the exam. Including this year's cohort, nine total BU students have earned the national certification recognition and three have earned high distinction. Bloomsburg's 50% certification rate exceeds the national average of 43.8%.

Bloomsburg University Graduate Students Attend Conference
Two Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania graduate students, Casey Roberts and Sara Wiberg, enrolled in the College Student Affairs (CSA) program, attended the MidAtlantic Placement Conference (MAP-C) in February. The two-day conference, sponsored by the Mid Atlantic Association of College and University Housing Officers, a regional association for residence life/housing staff, which includes Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. The event brought together college and university employers who have vacancies in residence life departments with candidates/job seekers.

Bloomsburg University Honors Student Employees
Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania's Office of Financial Aid recently announced BU's Student Employees of the Year. Iyanna Williams, a junior accounting major from East Stroudsburg, was named Student Employee of the Year. Andrew Bower, a senior computer science major from Berwick, is the Student Employee of the Year Runner-up. Anna Horn, a junior professional sales and marketing major from Schnecksville, was named Student Employee Rookie of the Year.

Bloomsburg University Names 2019-20 Scholar-Athletes
Bloomsburg University honored 147 student-athletes as 2019-20 Bloomsburg University Scholar-Athletes. A luncheon honoring their achievements was held Wednesday, Mar. 4, in the Kehr Union ballroom on campus. The student-athletes honored achieved a grade point average of 3.25 or higher over the past two semesters and/or have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher and were at least a sophomore academically. In addition to the 147 student-athletes, 45 freshman or transfer students were also honored for achieving a 3.25 GPA in their first semester on campus.

Bloomsburg University Students Participate in Husky Career Road Trip to Yuengling Brewery
Twenty students from Bloomsburg University participated in a Husky Career Road Trip to the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville, Pa. on Feb. 20, 2020. Students were given a tour of the brewery while learning the 190 year history of the company and met members of the Yuengling family. Students also took part in a presentation on marketing plans and strategies for product launches led by Tyler Simpson, Director of Marketing at D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc.

Bloomsburg University Students Participate in Lonae A. Moore Forum
Six Bloomsburg University students participated in a Husky Career Road Trip on Saturday, Feb. 8, to the Lonae A. Moore Memorial Forum. It Begins with Each of Us: Fostering Racial Understanding was sponsored by the Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust and hosted by the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia. The students attended a panel discussion moderated by Reverend Mother Jo Ann B. Jones, Associate Rector at Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr, Pa. Panelists focused on how "journalism, literature, the arts, and mass media shape and perpetuate perceptions of race." They included Dr. Nilgun Anadolu-Okur, Presidential Professor of Africology and African American Studies at Temple University, Lee A. Daniels, a reporter at The Washington Post and New York Times and V.P. of Publications at the National Urban League, Dr. Charles A. Gallagher, Professor of Sociology at La Salle University and Senior Fellow of the Yale Urban Ethnography Project, and Dr. Monique R. Scott, Director of Museum Studies at Bryn Mawr College.

Bloomsburg University Present at American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention
Six students from the Bloomsburg University Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders recently presented papers at the 2019 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Convention in Orlando, FL. The students were Cecelia Campanile (Doctor of Audiology third-year student), Kylie Connell (Doctor of Audiology third-year student), Miranda Mikelson (Doctor of Audiology second-year student), Jamie Daigle (Doctor of Audiology second-year student), Kimberly Winn (Doctor of Audiology first-year student) and Monica Amarante (Bachelor of Science third-year student). Faculty member co-authors were Thomas Zalewski, Mohsin Ahmed Shaikh, and Dong Zhang.

Bloomsburg University Students Attend PSU Primary Care Day
Ten students from the Bloomsburg University Department of Biological and Allied Health Sciences attended the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey Primary Care Day. The students attending Primary Care Day were Kaitlyn Beechay, Allison Coffey, Casey Donahoe, Emily Gerek, Xiane Goda, Nicole Harper, Catherine Maniscalco, Aashana Patel, Allison Sowers, Ayushi Umrigar, and Tristen Wade. The annual event introduces students to primary care medicine and its specialties, internal medicine, pediatrics, and family medicine. In addition to a keynote speaker panels on medical school admissions, students had the opportunity to observe a delivery simulation and musculoskeletal and newborn exams. Workshops were held on suturing, vital signs, and ultrasound imaging.

The Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Department of Exercise Science held its end-of-the-year awards ceremony on Saturday, May 11, prior to the school's commencement ceremony. Dominic Caruso was named the recipient of the Bill Sproule Award as the most outstanding graduating undergraduate student in exercise science. Also recognized were Jonathan Kollars, magna cum laude graduate; Mckenna Donley, cum laude graduate; Erica Krebs cum laude graduate; Kirstyn Sokolsky, cum laude graduate; and Taylor Zucco, cum laude graduate.

Bloomsburg University Holds 2019 College of Liberal Arts Research Day
Students from the Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania College of Liberal Arts (COLA) presented their research to an audience of their peers on April 24, 2019 during COLA Research and Creative Projects Day. Nearly 60 students representing 9 fields of study exhibited their work in McCormick Center for the Humanities throughout the day on a wide range of topics, from Evaluating the Influence of Mood on Intentional and Incidental Memory to Considering Perceptions of Dietary Decision-Making and Judgement. COLA Research and Creative Projects Day was created several years ago to allow students from a number of disciplines to showcase their work to fellow students, faculty and staff, as well as practice their presentation and networking skills for future career. The exposure to these presentations is also vital to encouraging other students to conduct and present their own research.. "Research and Creative Projects Day showcases the breadth of high-impact experiences of which students may take part as a Liberal Arts student at Bloomsburg University" explained Dr. James Brown, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts.

Bloomsburg University Speech-Language Pathology students receive White Coats
Twenty-six second-year students in the Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders master's degree program in Speech-Language Pathology recently held its White Coat ceremony at Rolling Pines Golf Course and Banquet Facility. The White Coat ceremony honors the transition from full-time, in-class work to full-time clinical externship work. The White Coats were presented to the BU students by Shaheen N. Department chairman Gregory Zimmerman, Ph.D., presented awards to its top students. In all nine students were recognized. Bloomsburg University Students named to Homecoming Court
Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania hosted its annual homecoming celebration the weekend of Oct. 5-7. Six BU students were finalists for homecoming king and queen. Students include Dave Zienkiewicz, Kira Silimperi, Victoria Whiteside, Ryan Soley, Ronald Rhoads, and Jess Snyder. Soley and Whiteside were named king and queen.

44 Student-Athletes Honored With 2017-18 D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award
Forty-four student-athletes from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania were recognized by the Division II Athletic Directors Association (D2 ADA) for their work in the classroom with a 2017-18 Academic Achievement Award. The student-athletes were honored for having at least a 3.5 grade point average, attending a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college-level work, and being an active member of their intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.
