Bloomsburg University Police Receive Accreditation Certificate

Bloomsburg, PA (07/30/2021) — Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania's Police Department received its Accreditation Certificate at a recent meeting of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association held at Kalahari Resort in Pocono Manor.

More than 300 people involved in law enforcement from across the state, including the State Police, Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office, and numerous district attorneys and county judges attended the ceremony.

Accreditation is offered through the Chiefs of Police Association's Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission. The Bloomsburg University Police Department (BUPD) is directed by Chief Leo Sokoloski and the department's accreditation manager is Sergeant Robert Neiderhiser.

"To have the quality of the Bloomsburg University Police Department recognized in front of our professional colleagues from across the state is a testament to the work the entire department invested in becoming an accredited force," said Sokoloski.

BUPD is now one of only seven accredited Institutions of Higher Education Law Enforcement Agencies within Pennsylvania to be accredited by the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission. Of the 1,117 law enforcement agencies in Pennsylvania, only 127 are accredited. The process takes between 18 and 24 months and covers 136 standards and 184 sub-standards.

Accreditation is an ongoing process, and BUPD will be re-evaluated in three years to show if it remains in compliance with the standards.

Bloomsburg University is one of 14 universities in Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education. The university serves approximately 8,600 students, offering comprehensive programs of study in the colleges of Education, Business, Liberal Arts and Science and Technology.
